Exhibition - Schools and other interested groups welcome

One of the simplest and most pleasurable aspects of the Porteath Bee Centre is that it gives you the chance to observe a load of bees going about their business.

In the Living Honey Bee Exhibition the beehives are kept behind glass fronted display cabinets housed in the walls that lead out into the open air. It’s a great opportunity to get really close and observe the bees darting around specially provided post boxes and hollow logs totally uninhibited by your viewing pleasure. And best of all no risk of getting stung!

Educational talks are also provided with information displayed on the walls and an educational video. Bee making equipment is on display and you will get to learn all about the history of beekeeping.

Children especially enjoy learning about bees and the whole family can purchase the delicious Cornish honey made on the premises. Seeing first hand the bees, hives and honeycomb as well as how the honey is turned in to what you buy in the shops is a valuable educational tool for both young and old.

The exhibition opens to the public from Easter to October.

Shop

The Porteath Bee Centre shop sells a wide range of products ranging from honey, hand made bees wax candles, furniture polishes for old and new furniture, books and even a waterproof wax for boots and shoes.

Try our delicious home made honey ice cream, honey fudge, jams and marmalades for a truly mouth watering experience.

There is also a fine range of beeswax, honey and honeycomb cosmetics manufactured by Vivians, Perlier, Honeycomb Cosmetics, Honey Cosmetics and B Natural Skincare.

Also TY soft toys, Portmerion Pottery, Dunoon (stoneware and china) Melamaster, Ulsterweavers (trays, tea towels and linen products) plus a range of honey pots.

Candle Making

Why not spend a pound and make your own Beeswax Rolled Honeycomb Candle. It’s available for children and adults to do anytime and only take about five minutes to make. It will make an ideal gift or a souvenir of your day here.

Tea Room

The Beehive Tearoom serves delicious morning coffee, light lunches and cream teas and these are all made on the premises. Here you can sit, relax or why not browse PoohCorner where ‘Winnie the Pooh’ memorabilia is a favourite for both children and the more mature collector.
